Upcoming Festival: Mid Autumn Festival 中秋節

Asian people celebrate many festivals, the Mid Autumn Festival, 中秋節 (In Pinyin Zhōngqiūjié) being one of them.

The Mid Autumn festival falls in roughly September or early October. The moon is normally the roundest or the fullest.

On such a festival, people give out and eat moon cakes(中秋月餅 In Pinyin Zhōngqiūyuèbǐng), friends and families gather together to Barbeque since it's not an everyday thing that people in Taiwan gather and have fun together.

There are many different varieties of moon cakes, such as those filled with lotus seed paste(蓮蓉 In Pinyin liánróng), sweet bean paste(豆沙 In Pinyin dòushā), jujube paste(棗泥 In Pinyin zǎoní) and five kernel moon cake [五仁月餅 In pinyin wǔrényuèbǐng](containing walnuts[核桃 In pinyin hétáo], pumpkin seeds [南瓜子 In pinyin nánguāzǐ], watermelon seeds[西瓜籽 In pinyin xīguāzǐ], peanuts[花生 In pinyin huāshēng], sesame seeds[芝麻 In pinyin zhīmá], or almonds[杏仁 In pinyin xìngrén])

Some latest modern varieties of moon cake fillings include cream cheese[奶油乳烙 In pinyin nǎiyóurǔlào], chicken floss[雞肉絲 In pinyin jīròusī], tiramisu[提拉米蘇 In pinyin tílāmǐsū], green tea[綠茶 In pinyin lǜchá], pandan[七葉蘭 In pinyin qīyèlán], durian[榴槤 In pinyin liúlián], ice cream[冰淇淋 In pinyin bīngqílín] (variety of flavors), chocolate[巧克力 In pinyin qiǎokèlì] and coffee[咖啡 In pinyin kāfēi].

Below are two pictures of moon cakes, the first one being the pink jelly moon cake and the last one being the traditional moon cake.
